Obituary
Joan Shecterle (nee Alby), 91, of Burlington, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday April 9th, 2024.
Joan was born October 6th, 1932. She grew up in the Waterford, WI area, graduating from Waterford High School. Out of high school she was recruited to work for the FBI. She left the FBI to help her family and their business. She did the books for Alby Manufacturing and many other local businesses. Later joining the team at Shadbolt & Boyd where she met the love of her life Richard “Dick” Shecterle and they got married on June 28th, 1952. They raised 3 wonderful children and had more love to share so they took in a foster child. Joan was later promoted to grandma and eventually great grandma, a title she took very seriously, spending as much time with her beloved grandchildren as she could.
Joan not only fiercely loved her family, but she passionately served her community. She was a founding member of BPW and was a Lioness at the Lions Club. She was a member of Eastern Star as well as visited inmates in a women’s prison to help educate them. She served on the board of Love Inc and was a girl scout troupe leader. She was hard worker, she worked endlessly with her brothers to build their family business American Bin & Conveyor.
When she wasn’t with family or volunteering, Joan and Dick would travel the world. She also loved sewing and gardening, especially tending to her rose bushes. She had an amazing sense of humor, everyone who met her loved her sassiness. She also loved to thrift and music, but most of all she loved Jesus.
Joan will be dearly missed by her children, James (Brenda) Shecterle of Rochester, Jill (Marvin) Holst of Waterford, and Jack (LeAnn) Shecterle of Rochester; grandchildren, Carri (Deno Schmidt), Jamie (TJ Darst), Niki (Chris Young), Teresa, Travis, and Breana Price, Jeremy (Mande), Jolene (Jim Flees), Sondra (Michael Williams) and Wayne (Elicia Maldanado); eleven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and brothers Jule (Mary) & Chuck (Sue) Alby, and her brother-in-law Donald Shecterle.
She was preceded in death by her parents Virgil & Christine Alby and her loving husband Dick, as well as her brothers Ron (Mariane) & Tom Alby.
A celebration of Joan’s life will be held on April 22nd, 2024, at Integrity Celebration Center (2789 Browns Lake Drive Burlington, WI 53105).

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial be made to St. Jude’s Hospital.
